01/26/2011: Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill Introduced in the Senate 01/25/2011
* Yesterday, the Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid, introduced S.6 bill in the Senate to reform America's broken immigration system, co-sponsored by nine other Senators. This is one of the ten bills he placed in the Senate's priority agenda for the 112th Congress. This has a long way to go ahead, but it symbolizes the Senate Democrats' plan to initiate debate on this key issue. Please stay tuned to this web site for the development of this legislation.

o Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
o SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
+ This Act may be cited as the ``Reform America's Broken Immigration System Act''.
o SEC. 2. SENSE OF THE SENATE.
o It is the sense of the Senate that Congress should--
+ (1) fulfill and strengthen our Nation's commitments regarding border security;
+ (2) pass legislation to support our national and economic security, such as the DREAM Act, which would allow students who came to America before turning 16 to earn citizenship by attending college or joining the armed forces, and AgJobs, which would help to ensure a stable and legal agricultural workforce and protect the sustainability of the American agricultural industry;
+ (3) implement a rational legal immigration system to ensure that the best and brightest minds of the world can come to the United States and create jobs for Americans while, at the same time, safeguarding the rights and wages of American workers;
+ (4) require all United States workers to obtain secure, tamper-proof identification to prevent employers from hiring people here illegally, and toughen penalties on employers who break labor and immigration laws;
+ (5) hold people accountable who are currently here illegally by requiring them to either earn legal status through a series of penalties, sanctions, and requirements, or face immediate deportation; and
+ (6) adopt practical and fair immigration reforms to help ensure that families are able to be together.

I work for University since 2002 with very straightforward case hence suprised
ok..here is part 2.
Employer was able to speak to USICIS officer. He asked
whethere
1) I was contractor
2) from when I was employed
3) Work timings
4) exact office Location
my supervisor asked why all these questions about location and timing they said they will do a site visit
I feel if my app can trigger this than any other app could...
The USICs is just getting crazy with all the bueracacy crap
USCIS is not getting crazy ....It's preplanned well defined strategy to kick out immigrants ...first they choked the system so that everyone is stuck and now picking more & more people in the name of verification

Hello friends,
On May 01,2009 my wife's I-485 status changed online that they requested additinal evidence. I have not received RFE letter as of now and also I am touch base with my attorney, my attorney's office also not received RFE letter. Please advice me what steps I have to take in this regard.

Do we have to send our application to one of the centers based on where we reside/work?

2 options:
1. current law allows u file at Nebraska
2. direct filing memo says that filing can be done at Texas or Nebraska based on the state u work in from 07/30/2007..however they are allowing people from now till then to do the same.

Its been more than 90 days for me and I don't have even a receipt no.Lawyer says that things have been delayed. Can it be delayed so much that I don't have even receipt no ? :confused:

Heard this from our company lawyer .... uscis will issue RFE for all I-485 applications that are pending for a while to make sure the applicant still has the job offer. He got this from a very reliable source. I dont know how true it is...just sharing what I have heard.

Get your Green and be happy bud !! USCIS is a black hole. There is no queue, no FIFO and no accountability. I would rather pay them extra $1290 if they can guarantee that my app would be approved in a specific time frame. I hate to dial that number and talk to those inefficient unskilled IO's and customer service people.

I applied for the renewal of my expired AP on Oct 12 which was received on Oct 14th.But neither the checks are cashes nor any reciept notice received.
Is there anybody else in the same boat,Btw, the service center is NSC.

Personally, I don't think it matters whether an applicant is direct employee or works for a consulting company. If it was indeed true, then people would start jumping on the direct client bandwagons :D

abc corporation is abc corporation. what OP was implying was that employees at companies with well established brand names would get it faster. but there are thousands of legitimate companies in various fields other than software that have 0 brand recognition outside their industry.

The EAD instrucions are as following ....EAD Applicants Who Have Filed For Adjustment of Status.
Adjustment Applicant--(c)(9). File your EAD application with a copy of the receipt notice or other evidence that your Form I-485, Application for Permanent Residence, is pending. You may file Form I-765 together with your Form I-485.
"or other evidence" ... So I think Case status printout + FP notice should be good enough.

I recently closed my Simple IRA (small version of 401K) account and requested the checks (they give seperate check for each fund) for myself. Generally there is a 60 days window to move those funds to a new IRA account in order to avoid 10% penalty and taxes. I have setup an IRA account with TDAmeritrade and planning to manage the funds on my own.

All,
I know as you all have reached 485 stage so you might be experts who can help answering few of my questions...
1) I work with a company who applied for my labor last year, its approved and now they are filling 140
2) Am applied in EB3 so not sure how many years it will take to get 485 dates to priority dates of 2008 ... am thinking abt 5-8 yrs
3) My wife works in a company who wont apply for her Green Card they dont have a policy
4) Her visa expires after 2 yrs ...
5) If I ask one of the consulting companies X to apply for her green card for future employment and pay all the cost for the green card.
6) Assuming she gets 140 in next 2 yrs before her visa is expired.
Questions .....
a) Can she renew her visa for 3 yrs with her current employer based on 485 filling pending with company X ?
b) How much would it cost to apply a green card upto phase 1 and phase 2 ...I might not actually require 485 stage. I just need her processing upto 140 stage so that she can keep renewing the visa until I get my 485 cleared ...in case I leave my job then we might think for her to apply 485 but chances are less.
Experts please guide me if this plan would work and if yes how much would it cost me ...

though as you say it is hard to judge such things exactly, when all our monitor calibrations will differ...
In a similar vein, mine looks a touch darker, and the greens a little flatter, viewed here in Explorer than when it was in Photoshop :confused: )

you can do any job you want in US, it does not have to be in any specific field.
Since you are/were on h4 you are a beneficiary. Only the primary applicant has to
work in the field in which his/her labor was filed, that too untill one gets the green card.

His PD is sep 2003 which became current in April.. so it took him just over 2 months to get final approval.

What will happen to people who already made the move hoping to preserve their priority date from previous employer? Isn't this unfair to these folks. Do you think they may be exempt from this? I wish at least.
I assume USICS will accept the Labor's and I 140 until in the old form until the merit based system was introduced .I assume the transition will be like the introduction of PERM
